Dial Codes Published since 1976 by the North Carolina OEMS, the Dial Codes book was originally just a listing of the radio digital dial codes used when all EMS communications was carried on 155.280 and 155.340 MHz. The digital dial is now seldom used, but it originally enabled ambulances to selectively encode or "dial" specific radios, usually at hospitals, without requiring constant monitoring of the radio frequencies. This also permitted an ambulance radio to access many hospital systems. The book is updated annually by the State Office of Emergency Medical Services and provides detailed information about hospitals, EMS providers, and emergency communications facilities within North Carolina. Frequency listings are generally for the state standard VHF Emergency Medical Radio Frequencies, 155.340 MHz and 155.280 MHz and for the UHF MED radio systems within the state. These frequencies are designated by the North Carolina Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council for statewide emergency medical use and advanced life support (ALS) medical control communication within the state. The Office of Emergency Medical Services sincerely hopes this information will assist you in obtaining our mutual goal of better and more effective emergency medical communications to provide care for those who live and work in North Carolina.
