CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS

RALEIGH NC (02-May-08) The North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS) is pleased to announce the 2008 Call for Presentations for the 35th annual educational conference, Emergency Medicine Today, to be held in Greensboro, North Carolina, October 5 – 8, 2008.

EM Today is one of the most widely recognized EMS educational conferences in the country, offering its attendees the opportunity to hear presentations from outstanding faculty from across North Carolina and the United States. The conference offers continuing education credit for topics of general interest and current advancements in the fields of Prehospital Emergency Care, Emergency and Trauma Medicine and Public Health. 

Additional information regarding the 2008 Emergency Medicine Today Conference, including the conference website, will be launched in the coming weeks. We appreciate your support of EM Today and we’ll see you in Greensboro October 5-8, 2008!

All presentation submission forms are due no later than Friday, May 30, 2008.

ENTRIES FOR PARAMEDIC COMPETITION SOLICITED

RALEIGH NC (07-Apr-08)  The eighteenth North Carolina Paramedic competition has been announced.  EMS providers in the state who desire to enter teams are encouraged to do so. 

Please read the attached announcement and details from Central Region Manager Michael Cobb to submit your entries. 

The preliminary competitions will be held in various locations on Friday, 25 July 2008.

NCHICA CONFERENCE

GREENSBORO NC (17-Apr-08)  The North Carolina Healthcare Information and Communications Alliance, Inc. (NCHICA) is a nationally recognized nonprofit consortium that serves as an open, effective and neutral forum for health information technology (HIT) initiatives that improve health and care in North Carolina. Members include leading organizations in healthcare, research and information technology. 

Registration is now open for NCHICA's 14th Annual Conference & Exhibition on Health Information Exchange: Connecting Communities to Achieve Excellence. The conference is scheduled for September 7-10, 2008 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC. The full conference registration fee is $495 members/$695 non-members, and there is a one-day rate available as well. Presenters at this year’s conference include Bill Atkinson who will demonstrate WakeMed's Mobile Emergency Command. The mission of the vehicle is to provide the state and region with a mobile command center post that can go to a disaster or other emergency situation and provide an on-site (or near site) communications center to manage the medical, healthcare and other needs that arise.

MOST:  MEDICAL ORDERS FOR SCOPE OF TREATMENT ONLINE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM NOW AVAILABLE

RALEIGH NC (07-Feb-08) In January, 2008, North Carolina implemented a new standardized statewide form (similar to the current DNR form) to legally document a patient's wishes concerning end of life care.  Both the information provided on this page and the online Emergency Medical Services MOST Educational Program were developed by the NC OEMS and the EMSPIC to assist EMS Agencies and personnel in understanding how the MOST form is to be used.

Since patients across the state will begin using this MOST form immediately, all EMS personnel are strongly encouraged to complete the MOST Online Educational Program by clicking the link below.  This program can be completed in approximately 30 minutes.  To receive one hour of CME awarded by the NC OEMS, please enter your NC EMS ID (their P Number) when prompted.  After the program has been successfully completed, a certificate will be displayed which can be printed for documentation.  http://www.emspic.org/nceducation.html

TRAUMA REGISTRARS' SYMPOSIUM SET FOR CHAPEL HILL

CHAPEL HILL NC (07-Feb-08)  The fourth annual NC Trauma Registrars' Symposium (Expanding our Knowledge 4) will be held at the Hedrick Center at UNC on 14 May 2008.  It will focus on a discussion from the Chief Medical Examiner, abdominal injuries, skin injuries, upper extremity injuries, and running Level I activations.
