June 25: EMS NIGHT OUT. MedCenter Air is proud to present EMS Night Out at 7pm at Rowan County EMS in Salisbury. Topic this month is Forensic EMS and Crime Scene Preservation. This is a quarterly educational event for Pre-hospital and hospital staff aimed at addressing current trends in the trauma or transport environment. A "Night Out" includes an expert lecturer on the chosen topic, two CEU’s, food and drinks, give-aways, aircraft display, and the backboard award. July 25 – Dec. 5: HYBRID ONLINE EMT-Basic Course. Davidson County Community College. $65 if not fee-exempt. This course will prepare students to manage life threatening emergencies in the pre-hospital setting. The course follows the EMT Basic DOT National Standard Curriculum. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the North Carolina EMT Basic credentialing examination. Students will complete course content online while being guided by a seasoned online EMS instructor. Students will communicate with their instructor and each other on a regular basis in the online classroom via discussion boards and e-mail. Students will review a skills DVD and other course material in preparation for MANDATORY on campus skills practice and written assessments. Skills and testing dates will be on Saturdays (July 25, August 15, August 29, September 12, October 10, November 7, November 21, December 4, and December 5). ANY SEMESTER: EMERGENCY MEDICAL SCIENCE BRIDGING PROGRAM. This program is designed to allow a currently certified non-degreed EMT-Paramedic to earn a two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Medical Science by completing the EMS Bridging courses and all other related and general education courses required for this degree. Scheduling is flexible and it is an open-entry program. You may enter any semester. Program is available through: Carteret Community College, Morehead City; Guilford Technical Community College, Jamestown; Randolph Community College, Asheboro; Rockingham Community College, Wentworth; and Surry Community College, Dobson. WCU is currently accepting applications for its on-line BS paramedic degree program. The program is available to certified paramedics who have completed 60 hours of college transfer credit (maybe in any field of study) with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Upon completion of their studies at WCU, students will receive the Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Medical Care, with a concentration in either Health Services Management or Science (pre-med).

The program is part-time and offered primarily over the Internet, with one class meeting per semester (three meetings per year) at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown NC. Classes begin in August, 2006. Space in the program is limited and applications will be accepted until 1 July 2006.
